A numerical control programming language developed in the 1950’s by MIT’s Servomechanisms Laboratory.

This data / code is used to drive and co-ordinate computer controlled tools – providing co-ordinates, direction and speed.

In the case of 3D printing, it will define the profile shape of each layer, layer thickness etc.
